DB2 System Programmer (z/OS Mainframe)

We are looking for an experienced DB2 System Programmer to join our highly skilled mainframe team. In this role, you will act as the subject matter expert for Db2 on z/OS, ensuring the platform’s stability, performance, and long-term evolution.
This is a unique opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with strategic ownership while working closely with stakeholders across IT and the business.
What you’ll be doing
- Own and drive the Db2 on z/OS technology roadmap
- Plan and deliver maintenance activities and major version upgrades
- Lead standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate across Infrastructure teams to develop and implement best-practice processes
- Ensure governance, security, and future-proofing of the Db2 environment
- Act as a key contributor in incident resolution and system stability
What we’re looking for
- Strong hands-on experience with Db2 for z/OS (system programming & administration)
- Proven expertise in performance monitoring and optimisation
- Solid knowledge of SMP/E, including installation, maintenance, and upgrades
- Experience managing Db2-related third-party (ISV) products
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts for senior stakeholders
- Proven track record in troubleshooting business-critical online systems
- A structured, proactive mindset with end-to-end ownership
- Comfortable working in high-availability 24/7 environments
- Calm, analytical, and methodical under pressure
Nice to have
- Previous experience as a Db2 DBA in a financial services environment
- Experience with IBM CDC for z/OS replication
- Familiarity with MQ for z/OS
